The REGIONAL CENTER FOR THE WELFARE OF AGEING PERSONS IN CAMEROON (RECEWAPEC) was created in 1990 as a Common Initiative Group (CIG) which was known as THE REGIONAL CENTER FOR HUMAN WELFARE AND AGRO-DEVELOPMENT (RECEHWEDEV) and the group was for older persons.

After working from 1996 up till 2000, the African Regional Director from HelpAge International, Kenya visited Cameroon to identify NGOs that are working with elderly persons. Amongst all he visited, RECEWAPEC was the only NGO chosen that was effectively working with the elderly persons.

Consequently, he wrote a report and from his report presented at the HelpAge International UK London, RECEWAPEC was admitted as an affiliate member of HelpAge International and since then, we have been working as partners with HelpAge International up till date.
